Antiques Lecture Series
Location: Executive Auditorium of the SWVA Higher Education Center
Description: From 1932 until 1980, Cumbow China Decorating Company was one of Abingdon’s well-known businesses, and hundreds of people throughout the region were collectors of their china pieces and dinnerware sets. Richard Foil, who for decades was a dealer at the annual Virginia Highlands Antique Market, began collecting Cumbow China’s hand-painted wares in the 1950s. His interest became so great that he wrote a history of the company and a guide to the range of designs it made, “Cumbow China of Abingdon, Virginia.”
His lecture will discuss the history of the company and illustrate the dozens of designs that the company produced over the years. Anyone who attends the lecture will receive a free copy of his book.
