Tour Location: Liz & Glen Harrison
Built in 1987, Liz and Dr. Glenn Harrison bought this lovely home in 2019. They have changed very little with the beautiful Joel Harte custom kitchen. Designed for Janet Woolwine (also on the kitchen tour), it has cherry cabinets with maple accents. The countertop is North Carolina granite. The couple added new light fixtures, updated the tile, added doors to open shelving, and installed a beverage refrigerator.
As Liz noted, “The kitchen proves that superior craftsmanship stands the test of time. We feel so blessed to have this space”.
Tour Location: Janet Woolwine
A true cooks’ kitchen, you will smell lovage, cilantro, Thai basil, parsley and lemongrass in the front herb garden, as you come through the front door. Janet’s kitchen is one of the most personal on the tour. Every corner has a memento or piece of art she has collected locally or in her beloved southwest. The wood for the project was an unexpected treasure from a cabin Janet bought on Park Rd in the early 2010’s. The previous owner mentioned, almost in passing, “Daddy’s has some wood in the attic”. It turned out the wood was wormy chestnut.
Nancy Harte designed and equipped the space, and Joel Harte built this beautiful custom kitchen. On leaving through the patio, notice the lovely outdoor kitchen with custom tiles, again a Harte creation.
Tour Location: Rebecca & Derek Webb
Built by Judge Reuben M. Page in 1908, the house stands on the original site of the Abingdon Female Academy which operated from 1850 until the building burned in 1857. In 1869 Sinking Springs Presbyterian church sold the property and gave the proceeds to the Jackson Female Academy. Judge Page served with the Washington Mounted Rifles in the Civil War after which he studied law and married Mary Crawford of Abingdon. Rebecca and Derek have been painstakingly restoring the property since they bought it in 2022.
A new addition extended the original kitchen. Working with Berry Home Centers they have crafted an eclectic mix of old and new, with a commercial range and hood. It’s truly a chef’s delight.
Tour Location: Jess & Chris Gotwalt
Jess and Chris Gotwalt’s small and dramatic kitchen was recently remodeled to fit the style and age of this 1924 house. The couple, who split their time between Raleigh NC and Abingdon, bought this beautiful historic home in 2022.
Jess serves on the Culinary Committee of the festival and the rest of the home will be on view on the festival’s historic homes tour.
Tour Location: Jen & Mark Eschle
The heart of this beautiful home is a custom kitchen with expansive walk-in pantry, Meile built in and plumbed coffee system and substantial center islands. Perfect for family gatherings and celebrations which Jen and Mark often host.
If you love the kitchen, you are in luck, as the couple have the home on the market right now.
Tour Location: George A. Whitley, Esq.
George is the consummate foodie who travels often but also enjoys entertaining at home. George built the house in 2005 and was involved in every detail of the design. His wine cellar is the envy of visitors.
The efficient and well laid out maple kitchen allows easy access to all parts as he cooks.
The triple window looks out along the trail the Overmountain men took in 1780 en route to the Battle of Kings Mountain…..a lovely place to cook and to be entertained!
Tour Location: Lantha & Greg Quesenberry
Built in 1987, the Quesenberrys bought the home on the lake in 2020 from Karen and Jay Johnson, who had renovated the beautiful kitchen. Perfect for entertaining, the kitchen allows space for gathering as preparations occur.
Lantha and Greg often bring back food influences from their many travels.
