  • Executive Auditorium of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center 1 Partnership Circle Abingdon, VA, 24210 United States (map)

Date: Tuesday, July 26, 2022
Time: 2pm
Location: Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center | Executive Auditorium

Pie safes were common in 19th century America but were especially popular in the central Appalachian region. What makes pie safes distinctive is their pierced-tin panels that provided ventilation, with designs that included flowers, urns, compotes, and eagles. Betsy K. White, the executive director of the William King Museum of Art, will show the variety of safes that the Museum documented from this area.
