Pie safes were common in 19th century America but were especially popular in the central Appalachian region. What makes pie safes distinctive is their pierced-tin panels that provided ventilation, with designs that included flowers, urns, compotes, and eagles. Betsy K. White, the executive director of the William King Museum of Art, will show the variety of safes that the Museum documented from this area.
